Nerul: The Nerul Police station found a unique way of celebrating Christmas and usher in New Year 2016. They shared their joy and happiness with the underprivileged children on 23rd December 2015 wherein they organized a Christmas and New Year get together for them along with Heart Foundation, an NGO working for children and youth. The program had a magic show, songs, cutting of cake, giving of gifts and snacks for over 200 children.

“I am delighted to see that such programs are being conducted at the Nerul Police Station for these children and also so much effort is being put to teach these children at the Station” said DCP Shahji Umap.

“It’s so nice to see that the Nerul Police Station has taken the efforts to bridge the gap between the Police and community by organizing such programs,” said ACP Dhanraj Daima, Turbhe division.

“We generally have the tendency to celebrate it with our own kids and don’t bother about these children. As these children are from the slum areas and studying in our police station under the Asha Kiran project, my staff and me felt what best than see the smiles on these children’s face. So we organized this Christmas and New Year get together” said Sangeeta Alphonso, Senior Inspector, Nerul Police Station. “I am glad I could be a part of this wonderful cause and join hands to bring smiles to these children” said Kamal Malhotra, who organized the event.

“Every year we do a musical program for the underprivileged and when Sangeeta Madam told me of her desire, I immediately agreed to be a part of this program. It was awesome to see the happiness on the face of each and every child present” said Dr. Jayakar Ellis, President, Heart Foundation.

Talking to Stree, Ms. Debanjali M and Maushmi Mahapatra, Coordinators of the Asha Kiran Project said, “Sangeeta Madam has always been kind enough to extend full support for teaching of the kids and organizing such get togethers.”

“I am so happy to be loved and cared by so many here in Asha Kiran and their support in our education gives us the encouragement to learn more” said Gulnaz Ansari & Arun Tanojia, students under the project.
