Unstoppable Indian team of Swastika Ghosh and Ishita Gupta bags Silver in TT International event


swastikaIn the 2016 ITTF World Junior Circuit India Junior and Cadet Open held at Indore (MP) from 7th to 11th September, India’s number one Table Tennis player in Sub Junior category, Swastika Ghosh of Navi Mumbai along with Ishita Gupta of Delhi, bagged Silver medal for the country.

The duo performed extremely well and looked unstoppable in their quarter final and semi final rounds. They surpassed their opponents without dropping a single game.

In the qualifying round against Taipei, Ishita Gupta beat T Shai Yu Chin by 3-1. Swastika beat World 10 ranking player Liu Wi Wi by 3-0. In the quarter final, the duo then beat Indian team ‘E’ by 3-0. In the semi final they beat Team India ‘A’ by 3-1.

The duo played gave tough fight in the finals but finally lost to Chinese Taipei ‘A’ team by 1-3. This is the first International medal for the Indian girls in the sub junior level.

“ITTF Junior circuit events provide great opportunities to the Indian participants. With fresh schemes u
nveiled by the government under Mission Olympic Cell, the players get their chance to showcase their skills and abilities. Both Swastika and Ishita played extremely well and were greatly lauded by all coaches and the players,” remarks Sandip Ghosh, an ITTF level 2 certified coach and father of Swastika Ghosh.
6 countries with 74 players participated in the event. The teams included two teams from Chinese Taipei, Iran, Egypt, Indonesia, Bhutan and the host India.
