NM police spreads awareness on Women and Children Rights through booklet


With an aim to stop crime against women and children and help them understand their Rights under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Navi Mumbai Police on 5th January, 2017 released a pocket size booklet at Vishnudas Bhave auditorium, Vashi. The booklet was unveiled by Chief Guest Mrs. Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission, Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale along with DCP Prashant Khaire, DCP Dilip Sawant, DCP Vijay Mane, ACP Nikhil Pawar. The eleven page booklet not only provides information about the various IPCs, but also has important Helpline numbers and contact numbers of the 20 police stations under Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate. These booklets will be distributed across the city as a handy guide book for the women.

“It is our aim to stop crime against women and children and hence Navi Mumbai police are going an extra mile to arrange social awareness programmes in school, colleges and societies; workshop on women’s rights etc.,” said Mr. Nagrale.

There are 20 police stations under Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate. Arrangements have been made to provide women cell in every police station. There is also a Women Assistance cell at Commissioner’s office and a Women Counselling cell at CBD Belapur.

“We are providing round the clock women patrolling mobile in Zone 1 and 2 of Navi Mumbai and foot patrolling near Schools and Colleges,” informed Mr. Nagrale.

“Women who face eve teasing can now fearlessly lodge their complaints at any of the police stations with the help of women police officer. An anti-sexual Squad has also been formed to tackle eve-teasing cases. Arrangements have also been made to prevent rape cases” said Sangeeta Alphonso, heading the Women Assistance Cell.  In addition, 388 CCTVs have been installed in Navi Mumbai to capture the culprits who indulge in eve teasing. Drivers and conductors of the public transport buses have also been trained to tackle eve teasing cases in public buses.
