Students make their own ‘plantable’ Ganesh idols; pledge eco-friendly Ganeshotsav

More than 100 students of Mount Litera School International (MLSI), a leading IB school in Mumbai, in a unique workshop made ‘plantable’ Ganesha idols and pledged for an eco-friendly and green Ganesh Chaturthi celebration. These Ganesh idols were handmade using fine clay and implanted with different seeds to ensure tree plantation at sites where these idols are immersed after the celebrations. The activity was planned with a thought to spread awareness about the environmental hazards of synthetic idols and provide a unique alternative of ecofriendly idols.
Students from Primary Years Program (PYP) and Middle Years Program (MYP) enthusiastically participated in this initiative and molded more than 100 Ganeshas which they will use this year for festivities at their residence. Imbibed with seeds of Moong and Tulsi, these Ganesh Idols will sprout into trees on plantation and dissolve into fine soil in case they are immersed.

Sharing her views on this green initiative Mrs. Navyata Goenka, Advisor – Mount Litera School International said, “I think it is a wonderful initiative undertaken by the students. It strongly conveys the message of being environmentally conscious in our celebrations and it feels great to know that the younger generation cares so deeply about the impact we have on our planet.”
