Rosalin Lewis makes India proud by winning Silver medal at World School Athletics Championship


IMG-20160721-WA0009Vashi: Rosalin Lewis, a class XI student of Fr. Agnel School, Vashi has made the satellite city of Navi Mumbai and the country proud by winning Silver medal at the World School Athletics Championship held at Trabzon, Turkey from July 11-18 in the medley relay team event. She was part of the four-member Indian girl’s relay team that included Lewis, Sangita Shinde and Siddhi Hiray (both from Pune) and K Samya Sri (Tamil Nadu).

Rosalin was just few kilometers away when the terrorist struck the Istanbul airport. However, there was no issue at the venue and the program went as per schedule. Rosalin finished sixth in her pet individual event, the 200 meters sprint (25.35 seconds).

Born in a family fond of sports, Rosalin never had any difficulty in pursuing her dream. Going down the memory lane Rosalin says her first encounter with the racetrack was when she was just 4-year-old. “I was a very energetic child and would always love running. However my potential was observed by my teacher who encouraged my parents to put me in athletics,” beamingly says Rosalin.

Since then she has not looked back. The 16-year-old Rosalin has so far won Gold in 100m, 200m sprint (running) and 400m relay. She won silver in 100m hurdles.

A hard working student, Rosalin gets up at 4am for a rigorous four hours training session and then heads for her College. She attributes her success to her coach, teachers, parents and her friends who have guided her in every step. Speaking about the success mantra she says, “Sports is not about winning or losing it is about keeping a balance and positive attitude all the time and this is exactly what I have learnt during all these years from athletics.

Rosalin has not only succeeded in sports but has also an excellent academic record. She scored 91 percent in class 10th Board examination and is currently pursuing Commerce in grade XI.  IMG-20160721-WA0006

Rosalin’s coach Shrinivas Gupta, who has been training her for past six years, feels that she has a great potential and a very bright future. He says, “I have been training Rosalin since many years now. She is very determined child who has the go-get-it-all attitude. She has tremendous potential to become an international athlete.”

After her smooth victory, Rosalin Lewis is very ecstatic and has set her aim a notch higher. “I now aim for Olympics. I believe that nothing is impossible,” confidently says Rosalin.
