It is raining medals for the Navi Mumbai aquatic queen

It is raining medals for the 11 year old resident of Navi Mumbai, Avni Sonkusale. In the recently held Raigad District Amateur Association’s sub junior and junior District aquatic championship, Avani won 4 gold and 2 silver medals (50m freestyle- Gold; 50m butterfly- Gold; 100m freestyle-Gold; 200m IM- Gold; 50m Breast-Silver; 50m back-Silver.

A Total of 150 students participated in the competition in various categories. In the Under 10 category Avni gave tough competition to 12 girls. She will now represent Raigad district under her category at the state championship.

The state level competition is scheduled to be held between 26-28 May at Balewadi Pune.

Avni, who had also won the same U/8 championship two years back, wants to make “winning as her habit”.

Studying in 5th standard at Bal Bharati Public School, Avni has been participating in various other extra-curricular activities as well. She bagged the ‘All Rounder Voracious Reader’ trophy in 1st, 2nd and 3rd standard. She is a good painter and her drawings were exhibited at the School’s annual day function this year.
