Sterling Wockhardt Hospital, Vashi & Women police officers join hands for Women Safety

Vashi : On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Sterling Wockhardt Hospital Vashi,  in collaboration with Navi Mumbai Police department in the presence of Senior police inspector of Vashi police station, Ajay Kumar Landge  with  Anti-human trafficking cell, police inspector Pushpalata Dighe, conducted a Women Safety workshop with “I am fearless” campaign  for their women staff on 2nd March 2016 in their hospital premises. In this workshop she taught the techniques and movement of self defense in crisis situations and also shared some cases of domestic violence, trafficking and rape.

Approximately 80 women employees of the hospital participated in the session. All women including doctors, nurses, and staffs took part in the self defence training session. The women employees were provided training on basic self defense techniques, and moves. They were given insights into how to tackle one, two and a gang of people, and which objects to use like keys, deodorants- in cases of emergency- to defend themselves in situations like, carjacking, kidnapping, physical intimation and road rages, besides other crisis situation. The one hour training program also included a pledge- ‘Pledge for Parity’ after which Wockhardt hospital shared the “I am fearless” – Wockhardian Brave Medal with female Wockhardians.

Senior police inspector of Vashi police station, Ajay Kumar Landge said: “Women give us strength, knowledge and power. We cannot disrespect them. They should not tolerate any kind of torture whether it is physical or mental, if any, they should come up with it from the beginning so that they don’t have to suffer to the extreme. We police are always ready to help them. It is our duty. Self-defense is mandatory today for every woman, every girl. Ignoring things doesn’t help but fighting back does. I hope this “I am fearless” campaign and training has helped to get confidence to fight back.”

On this occasion Dr. Mehul Kalawadia, Centre Head Sterling Wockhardt Hospital Vashi said “A large number of women work round the clock in the hospital premises. On International Women’s day, “I am fearless” campaign is a step to ensure their safety. We are happy to carry out such initiatives which make them strong both mentally and physically. I thank the police officers on behalf of my team for giving us their valuable time, defense techniques & thoughts.”
